SF Giants’ Trivino reflects on earning first victory since 2022

PHILADELPHIA Lou Trivino didn t think it would mean much for him to earn his first win in three years Then he saw his name in the final box total W Trivino - It s a long time so it s cool to be back in the stat column Trivino stated after the Giants - win on Wednesday I didn t think it would mean a lot to me Then I detected out I was the winning pitcher I was like Okay that s kind of meaningful It s just cool It s been a while and it s nice to be able to contribute again with such a good unit Bob Melvin who managed Trivino with the Oakland A s called on Trivino to provide much-needed equanimity in a tie ballgame after starter Robbie Ray allowed four earned runs over four innings Trivino responded by throwing two scoreless innings striking out two batters and allowing one lone hit When the Giants scored a run in the top of the fifth Trivino discovered himself in line for his eventual win Had to go through the middle of their order there as well through the lefties Melvin reported It really did settle everything down He threw strikes He didn t walk anybody That was huge to give us two innings like that Prior to Wednesday night Trivino s last win at the major-league level was on Aug as a member of the New York Yankees after missing two full seasons due to injury Trivino underwent Tommy John surgery in May then appeared in minor-league games in The Yankees declined Trivino s club option after the season paving the way for him to sign a minor-league deal with the Giants and re-uniting him with Melvin Trivino wasn t guaranteed a spot on the Opening Day roster despite his track record but the -year-old pitched his way onto the band by throwing scoreless innings with strikeouts The right-hander has appeared in seven games so far this season allowing three earned runs over innings ERA with strikeouts I think it means a little bit more having to earn a spot and then again to be a part of a crew I think we re very good Trivino stated The pitching is outstanding The hitting is outstanding The defense is fantastic It s great It s a good feeling to be part of something like this Added third baseman Matt Chapman Trivino s teammate with the Oakland A s from - It s been a long journey for him We were pumped for him He s obviously been a big part of helping this bullpen out I know when he s healthy what he s capable of So it s good to see him looking like his old self Related Articles Can Jimmy Butler fuel a Warriors playoff run like prior midseason acquisitions for Bay Area teams SF Giants enjoy blowout win as every starter reaches base multiple times SF Giants Schmitt already excelling at new position despite inexperience SF Giants can t hold lead Verlander still searching for first win Adames hits first home run of season as SF Giants rout Phillies Trivino s first win since his surgery was especially meaningful given he earned it at Citizens Bank Park Trivino who was born in Green Lane attended Upper Bucks Christian School which is about miles north of Philadelphia Trivino grew up as a Phillies fan and recalled going to games at Citizens Bank Park watching the likes of Jimmy Rollins Jim Thome and Pat Burrell the Giants hitting coach who was presented his Phillies Wall of Fame right prior to Wednesday s contest I ve had family here the whole time my parents and in-laws are here A lot of friends I ll just be chilling in the bullpen and there s someone like Hey And I go Hey I haven t seen you in a while Trivino disclosed It s cool to be back in the stadium again Growing up as a kid and coming here to the games it s special to play on this field It brings back memories watching the guys that I watched in my childhood
